YOu can get the Expedia Streets and Trips 2001 for $10 from Staples after $20 rebate. Is this software better than the default Skymap software? What makes it better? Thanks

I have both...here are my two cents.

Compatibilty:

SkyMap Win95 and 98 Only.
S&T2001 Win95, 98, NT, Win2k, and WinME(I don't know, just assuming on this one). Has a reduced version that can load onto your palmpilot.

Quality:
SkyMap Slow redraw, even with lower detail settings on my p3-700 w/geforce2 GTS

GPS stuff:
S&T2001 will work with the SkyMap GPS unit if switched to "NMEA" mode (easy to do).
You can call the etak folk for help on getting this to work...fairly easy if you're familiar with modems and com ports.

Both softwares will allow you to plot a course and watch it follow on the map using the GPS. The SkyTalk has a "voice recognition" setup....looks nice, but haven't played with it. You wear an earbud and mic that plug into your laptop. It will warn you of upcoming turns, and if you miss a turn, you can tell it to find next best turn and other things too.

Enjoy.
