I'm prepping an old laptop that I was recently given to do a job for me, a Dell Latitude E4300, which has an Intel Core 2 Duo P9400 @ 2.4GHz.
The processor temps seem to range from around 45C (the CPU fan isn't running at this temp) to about 83C under sustained load (and the clock speed stays at 2.4GHz even when it reaches that temp). The latter temp always makes me a bit nervous so I thought I'd check with people here, but I'm thinking that it's probably OK for this CPU because after the processor usage calms down, the temp drops down to about 50C as well.
I've given the CPU fan a quick vacuum-clean for good measure, but in order to get very close to it I would need to open the laptop up again (it's not just a trapdoor job or a vent that I can get sufficiently close to it IMO).
