Previous thread shared my sorrows for a celeron 420 emachines and a gtx580.

Events in the last few days has put off my 2600k build up to october.

Traded my gtx580 and got my friend the following to upgrade his celeron 420 emachines....

x48 Dfi DK X48-T2RS motherboard
core 2 duo e8200 stock for now
4gb gskill ddr2 at 1066mhzs
pny 9800gtx 512mb
seagate 1.5tb

Will be a light gamer for him and me till october but as a folder what can i expect ppd wise from the 9800gtx and the e8200 stock and overclocked?

Thanks for any input to this matter 🙂

Been folding on the 9800gtx for the last day and a half appears iv'e only gotten around 6,000 points is that about right for a 9800gtx ?Been gaming a couple hours that's it yesterday.

Overclocked the e8200 to 3.2ghzs so perhaps anyone crunching on a stock e8500 can give some light to their ppd.🙂

Well if this sheds any light for you, my E7200@ 3.6 is getting 2600 - 2800 PPD. With that said, your E8200 should do a bit better than that. As for your 9800GTx, Maybe 5500+. I have 2 8800GTs and the each get 4500+/- Depending on WU. I dont run them right now as they are power hungry for the PPD output. They also crank the heat too.

You have to use a passkey, and then complete 10 successful units on the SMP client, before you can recieve bonus points on your WUs. Without the bonus, CPU WUs don't give all that many points.

Your GPU sounds about right. My quad-GPU rig with 9600GSO cards could get 4K PPD per card, 24/7 dedicated folding.

True on the passkey but now that this has been implememted, it should be a given if you really want to achieve better PPD. Everyone should be doing it by now anyway but ya never know I guess.... 🙂

Based from what im hearing might be best just to use the 9800gtx for folding.

Those ppd sound alot better then what the e8200 can give off considering i do use my pc quite often.

Thanks for all the input 🙂

Despite being a bit old of a thread thought i will let everyone know i gave this rig to my friend to upgrade his celeron 420 and i went 2500k.

Thanks for all input 🙂
