ok forgive me for asking this, but should be easy to answer for some of you. I have a home wireless network set up with a Linksys G wireless router. Now i have a friend who has an old linksys G wireless access point which he isnt using anymore and is willing to give to me. Could i use that linksys wireless access point to expand the reach of my wireless network? Is this as simple as running an ethernet cable from the router to a new area of the house and adding the access point? or is that not even needed? can i somehow set it up as a repeater for the network? or is this all fantasy? Thanks for any help.

so since i am already using a wireless router and then would connect the access point to it using an ethernet cable is there anything i need to set up specifically? am i going to create interference with multiple wireless access points meaning #1 the router and #2 the access point now?

i guess i'm asking how?

If cabling isn't an issue, just run a line frmo them ain router to the AP and put it somewhere central to the house. Might evne cover the whole house in which case you could turn off the wireless on the main router. If you are going to have both, you could set them up with the same SSID and it should just pick the stronger signal and connect to it. Not sure if you have them with different SSIDs and both within range and both preferred... Might flip-flop back and forth a bit.
