I've got a printer coming in the mail that will act as its own print server once I connect an ethernet cable to it. Only problem is that my modem/router are upstairs and I already ran a long cable to my main PC downstairs. If I pick up a plain switch like the dlink-1105 will I have any problems? Main thing I want to prevent is any speed/bandwidth losses to the PC (which I use for gaming) once I add a switch inline.

I would think even a plain hub would do it, unless you print much more than I do. 99% of the time it won't be taking any bandwidth at all, to speak of.

Any generic switch will do for this. Your LAN bandwidth won't affect your internet at all as LAN switch speeds are generally 100mbit and internet gaming isn't even 1/10 of that.
