Hi Lukx,

Sorry, can't help, but if it's any consolation, i'm having exactly the same problem.. Started yesterday the 8/2/06.. The process runs at startup and is called ##exmodulap.exe, where ## is a random 2 digit number. it sits there quietly for a while, then takes over cpu 100% until i kill it. All fine for about 1/2 an hour then another process appears with same name, just different numbers. I also have tried every spyware and bot search on the planet to no avail. There's nothing weird in the registry that i can find, or in msconfig startup...

if anybody has any help it would be greatly appreciated.. fingers crossed lukx..

I'm using AVG. I will run test again. Because I ran adware and spybot I guess I forgot running AVG complete test:).

I'm using AVG too, and did update and full system scan.. nothing unfortunately.. Maybe it's a new variant or something??

I've done a system restore to a couple of days ago and appear to have fixed the problem.. Not a solution i know, but worked for me in the meantime..

i used hijack to deterrmine the problem.

i found a suspicious entry "smss.exe /w"

comparing the file with the exmodulap and bingo

i recommend to use hijackthis and check for strange entries

concerning the exmodulap problem, you should rename the smss.exe in the c:\windows\system folder and fix the problem with hijackthis

please be aware of deleting the correct smss.exe located in c:\windows\system32. this is the microsoft windows session manager and should not be deleted!
