Exits to dos while installing windows 98

Recently my computer froze up on me, when I restarted I got error beeps telling me my memory had gone bad. I replaced the memory (from Crucial) and tried to boot up my computer. I kept getting windows protection errors before it would start all the way up. Since I did not have anything important on there anyway, I decided to just format and reinstall the OS.

So after formatting my drive, I start up using a startup disk and run setup.exe. It starts installing windows 98, but then just drops back to dos. No error message or anything, just back to a dos prompt. I tried installing again, same thing happened, but at a different point. It has done this a few times now, and I can't find the reason for it. What could be causing this? How can I get the OS installed? I would think if the memory was bad again I would get the beeps like I did before. I've tried both memory slots, same result. Only things installed are floppy, cd drive, video card, and hard drive.

Hopefully somebody out there has some ideas that I have been unable to think of.

Why don't you try copying the "Win98" folder contents to the HD first
and run setup from there.
Maybe it's a CD-Rom problem?
