Exercise-induced headaches?

I play on my school's ultimate frisbee team and I've been having exercise-induced headaches for the past week. The pain is in the front part of my brain just above and behind my eyes and I only feel it when I shake my head or run (basically, when my head gets jarred). The pain starts out slow after maybe 30 to 45 minutes and intensifies until I stop exercising, at which point it fades gradually.

Has anybody experienced this or does anybody know what might cause it? My original thought was dehydration (and I'm still not convinced that it's not dehydration), but I've been trying to drink a lot of water (I had maybe 1.5 gallons today) and I've been urinating constantly, yet today was the worst day.

Now, I realize that ATOT isn't a doctor's office and I'm going to talk to the trainer tomorrow, but there's a wealth of knowledge here and I thought I'd tap into it.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

You don't breathe enough air. I have it all the time because I only breathe with my mouth.

That's an interesting idea. If that's the case, why hasn't it been happening for the past couple of months?

could be some kind of vitamin/mineral deficiency. I suspect this cause you say drinking more water makes it worse. i get a mild headache if i get dehydrated

Dehydration.........I also get headaches after a good jog at the gym. Drink lots of fluids. I get a good amount of headaches if I don't drink a lot after an intense run.

Well I wasn't saying that drinking more water makes it worse. Only that I drank a lot of water today and it was worse than before. Despite drinking so much, I've actually still been thirsty all day, now that I think about it, so it probably is dehydration.

Shut up. 😛 🙂

Actually, there's no issue in that post.
1) It's not really appropriate to draw causation from correlation. I drank a LOT of water yesterday. I have no reason to believe that this is what exacerbated my headaches. I mean, drinking that much water is rarely bad and usually deals with dehydration. And about being thirsty, I've definitely been thirsty plenty of times and not gotten headaches, so I don't think it's unreasonable to think that I can be both thirsty and NOT dehydrated to the point of headaches (especially given that I was peeing clear ALL day -- and often).

I suppose all of this is irrelevant if there's some sort of mineral deficiency, though. In that case, drinking all of that water probably would have made the situation worse.

I guess the point is that, of these options, I don't really know which is more likely and I'm not sure how to go about testing them. Given that mineral deficiencies are a bit more rare than dehydration, I think I'll just continue to drink ridiculous amounts of water and see how things go.

Does your school have a regular frisbee team and if they do whats the difference between them and the ultimate frisbee team?

And if it is dehydration, you need to drink all day, not just when you are excerising

Uhhh, do you not know what ultimate frisbee is or was that a joke?

First, to address Syrch's question: Ultimate Frisbee is the fully-qualified name of a sport. Check out http://www.upa.org or http://www.collegeulti.com for more information and what it is and who plays it at the college level (there are also, btw, plenty of club teams ALL around the nation).

Ultimate Frisbee is in the winter at your school? Whack.

Ultimate Frisbee is ALL year at my school and a lot of other schools. In fact, we just got back from a 3-day tournament in Las Vegas that had 64 college men's teams (I think there were 32 women's teams, too) from all over the nation (even places covered in snow). For us in Santa Barbara, it's not too big of a deal as the lowest temperatures we see are in the mid 30s (late at night) and there's rarely rain.
