I cannot access the .ppt slide on one of my schools servers, which contains the information I need to figure out what exactly an executive summary is.

Anyone have an example or can give some info on them?

In this situation, I have a mock e-commerce plan (in .ppt) and I need to create an executive summary based on in a Word processor.

Thanks!

The Executive Summary orients the reader to the report that follows by identifying the purpose of the report, its most important ideas and the main conclusion.

Notice that it is usually one or two short paragraphs covering no more than one page. Widen the margins for a Summary and place it approximately in the middle of the page. Centre the title Summary or Executive Summary three lines above the first paragraph. The page is numbered (or paginated) in lower case Roman numerals. Since it follows the Title Page, the summary is usually numbered in a footer as ii or simply left blank.

Think of the summary as telling the story of the whole report. It should have a beginning in which it states why the project was carried out; a middle in which it highlights the most important features of the report; and an end in which it reaches a conclusion and perhaps a recommendation.

Sample Executive Summaries

Executive Summary 1

Trillium Fashion Accessories has requested Miracle Consulting Solutions to examine their non-automated system problems and offer a solution. Andy and Jenny Carpenter, both owners, have supplied our group with pertinent information relating to their current means of day-to-day operations.

In studying the problem, we at Miracle have been able to distinguish some of the failings of the current system of operations at Trillium based on their need to develop a larger client base, to increase the rate of orders, and to reduce costs wherever possible in order to boost profits.

Based on these needs, it will become apparent that the systems problem at Trillium Fashion Accessories must be addressed by cutting over to an automated, computerized system, particularly in the areas related to order input and output.

Summary 2

Trillium Fashion's paper based system of order processing had become too time consuming and unreliable. Due to rapid growth the staff had become overworked and difficulties in meeting deadlines were being encountered. A computerized system was the answer, but the employees had never worked with computers before. The goal of our team was to design a user interface which was simple enough for anyone to navigate effectively.

We offer windows based screen designs that are most effective and intuitive. While prompting the user with simple instructions which facilitate operation, the system effectively performs all the required functions. These include Order Entry, Reports and Outstanding Order Lists.

We highly recommend this screen design, not only is it simple, easy and fun to use, but it also will eliminate delays in order processing, it will save time and above all it will increase productivity.

No problem!

I don't drive on the 407 too much... but thanks for the heads up.
