I see Might and Magic 10 was just announced. It looks nice and old school as well. I'm surprised Ubisoft would entertain such a thing.

So just off the top of my head. All within the next two years

- Wasteland 2
- Witcher 3
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Project Eternity
- New Torment game
- Dragon Age 3
- New Divinity game
- Might and Magic 10
- Shroud of the Avatar (maybe..if Garriot doesn't mess it up)
- Dark Souls 2

I suspect a Fallout 4 is in the pipeline as well.

:awe:

DA 2 had a one year production time and was a rushed and botched job. DA3 is taking a lot longer so hopefully that means they're putting some effort into it.

DA2 wasn't an atrocity for how bad it was, it was kinda meh, but for how good it ought to have been but wasn't due to whatever decisions they are making.

Personally I am also kinda attached to the Warden story and they aren't, apparently, focusing on that anymore. I don't mean it has to be the THE warden from DA:O, but the Wardens in general would be nice.

DA:O is the last RPG I was really excited about (and enjoyed). DA2, while a good game on its own, departed too far from the original's values and effectively ruined the franchise for me. I will wait and see how DA3 turns out before deciding to buy (or not).

I liked Baldur's Gate, NWN and DA:O. Is any of the games in that list similar or in the same vein as these classics? Skyrim and Fallout 3, fine games they are, are not true RPG for me, having relatively sub-standard plots and more focus on action than role-playing.

@Zorander

Project Eternity is made by the guys, that made Baldur's Gate, and will be "exactly" like that, just they dont own the IP to the game,so its not called Baldurs Gate 3.

Same with Torment, made by the same guys behinde Planescape torment.

You ll likely love the same games Im looking forwards too:

Wasteland 2 (turn based RPG, like fallout, made by guys from fallout team)
Project Eternity (pause+give party commands, resume, style like baldurs gate)
Shadowrun: returns (turn based RPG, like fallout)
Torment: Tides of Numenera (puase+give party commands) (planescape torment 2)

No.

Black Isle only produced BG. The Bioware guys who actually made BG are spread about: lead designer James Ohlen is still officially on TOR (though not visible for a while), lead writer Luke Kristjanson did stuff for the DA and ME franchises, designer/writer Rob Bartel is out of the computer game business, etc.

If you mean BG2, besides the above guys, Kevin Martens is now at Blizzard (he was on D3), Brent Knowles was lead on DA:O and quit Bio because DA2 was going to be crap, and David Gaider is of course the current public face of Bioware writing.

None of these guys is on Eternity. MCA is awesome (he's basically responsible for most of PST), but he should be on the Torment project (he's not!) instead of this one.

Chris will be on the torment game when it hits the 3.5M stretch goal.

Eternity is trying to be an Infinity Engine game built using modern tools. It is a bit of a mix of BG, IWD and PST.

I expect both games will be really good and I am also looking forward to Wasteland 2.

Kickstarter has really created a boom for RPG games on the PC. There are not only several classics getting remakes due directly to kickstarters, but I think it sent a message to developers/publishers that PC gamers are starved for good RPGs and that there is money to be made there. I do however wish these would be spaced out a bit, too many RPGs in such a short span is gonna flood the market. Everybody wants a piece of the pie, but there is only so much pie to go around.

Fuck, now I want pie.

I love Might and Magic, one of my favorite gaming memorys was having to delete everything off my HD at the time to be able to barely squeeze in world of xeen on it, and 34 or so floppys later Clouds and Darkside of xeen were installed! And waiting for it to come from Chips and bits.

I loved RPG's but they are too time consuming to take on more than 1 at a time. And since they generally take longer to play, I play less games when I'm working on one of those. Makes me wish I didn't have a job :)

Right now playing lots of SC2... being able to just play 20-30min games and leaving it be is a big appeal. 30 min sessions on an RPG is like shooting yourself in the foot repeatedly.

as an NWC fan I am kinda worried about the M&M X. Ubisoft is behind it and Ubisoft just can't make anything true to its real form. I am afraid that they would market it as an hardcore RPG, but it would be very straightforward and easy with pointers and markers and without the great depth of game mechanics that made the series fun playing over and over again.

I'm in on the $45 kickstarter for WL2 and Torment

Same! This deal is hard to pass on.
BG and PS:T were the games I played the most back then. Best RPGs ever made IMO and story wise it is hard to beat PS:T.

I even bought PS:T back from GoG and BGEE from Steam. I'm enjoying myself so much.

Good ol days...

But most recently the best RPG I played and replayed is Divinity 2. Best RPG that came out since DA:O personally.

I really need to try Dark Souls on the PC. I played it on the Xbox but if I remember correctly I wasn't impressed with how it ran.
