OMG, I LOVED dissecting the cat, it was better than the pig, or the shark, or anything else. I heart you :) Hope you have fun.

Hey, I love cats too..... But if they're already dead, why not?

:(

Are you a girl? Cuz the only ppl who I know that didn't like dissecting the cat were girls......

Wait, based upon recent posts in recent threads, I need to put a political spin on this....... Give me a second....... Oh, got it. Since cats are the enemies of mice which scare the poop out of elephants which are the Democratic mascots, then because you love cats, YOU MUST BE A DEMOCRAT. There, got that in.
Anyways, hope the dissection goes well :)

I dissected a cat in my Comparative Vertabrate Anatomy class.

That sh!t was absolutely disgusting. The stuff they preserve the cat stinks like no other, and i'll stay in your clothes and hands for several days. Doesn't matter if you wear latex gloves.

I've taken 2 anatomy courses (2 different schools, credit wouldn't transfer) and a physiology course (also dissected in my bio courses, also 2 schools because credit wouldn't transfer).
I've worked on ... cats, fetal pig, sheep hearts, eyeballs, and 2 different cadavers.
I think it's extremely fascinating. And yeah, the smell stinks... it stays in your clothes but you learn so much. I dunno if they'll do it in your class, but for the practical they usually pin specific muscles, nerves, etc and it's more difficult to find out what it is when it isn't neatly laid out as in a diagram.

that is freakin sick.. One thing (like we did in class) is some rat, just some creature.. another thing is cat. I happen to love my cat and I just would not be able to stomach disecting any cat :(

I spent a couple of semesters dissecting an 80 year old lady. she started out human, ended up a twisted hunk of gristle and bone on the slab. I felt like we (the 10 or so students working on that particular cadaver) didn't really acknowledge the privilege of being allowed to dissect a human body, we didn't really bring any solemnity to the proceedings.

Squalus acanthias is far worst...the cat didn't give me much of a problem as far as odor and it staying on me.

I even brought mine home to study some of the structures we were not covering. I had one dissection hand and one hand I used to eat with during a long session :).

My dissection group back in HS lucked out and we got a cat almost ready to give birth. Not only did we get to cut apart the cat, but all the little kittens we pulled out of her too.
