There is a bill in works in CA (Senate bill 1520) that wants to put an excise tax on softdrinks. they are claiming softdrinks contribute heavily to obeseity level of kids in CA.
WTF!!!!! tell the parents to buy less soft drinks and probs can be solved.
why not put an excise tax on fast food.

Was in today's WSJ, can't link it..

Why not put a tax on fat people and really get to the skinny of the issue? imo if your bodyfat is above 10% you should be cut apart and fed to pigs as food.

Remember this is the state that banned smoking in bars a restaurants to make people healthier. They will make you healthier whether you like it or not. Kind of reminds me of something I read long ago. I am just paraphrasing here but you will get the idea.

When they came for the Jews I didn't say anything because I wasn't Jewish. When they came for the homosexuals I didn't say anything because I wasn't homosexual. When they came for the protestants I didn't say anthing because I wasn't protestant. When they came for the blacks I didn't say anything because I wasn't black. When they came for the catholics and the Irish I didn't say anything because I was neither. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything.

You hear people talk about the slippery slope in regards to freedom. This is what they mean. Now go have a coke and a smile. :)

Before having an opinion, I'd like to know EXACTLY where the taxes that are collected are spent.

smoking is really addictive... cola is somewhat addictive (if you drink it often go without for a few days), but then theres sprite, the uncola, with no caffeine... that not addictive at all, unless you're nuts. (i drink mine with jack in it so yeah, i guess thats addictive). parents should stop giving their kids so much damn soda. orange juice! cali makes oranges, help the state economy by buying cali orange juice! give it to your kids. (does oj have more calories than coke? i know milk does).

the people's republic of california sucks.

So does that mean diet soda are exempt?

i was going to ask that as well. Colorado tired the "Fat" tax too and it didnt even come close in passing.

Actually, you should watch out with orange juice with your kids. OJ has lots of citric acid which can damage kids teeth. Water is the best solution of all. Some OJ is ok, but don't make it a replacement for soda.
