Exchange relaying address space vs smart host

Trying to understand the address space and smart host options. Whats the difference?

Is the address space just the email address this send connector will route?

I going to be relaying message from my exchange server to my external email provider.

FROM EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDER

the IP address of the server/firewall, I can relay out for your Exchange Server. I can add an SPF record for your server to the DNS.
So would I just add smart host for my external email provider?

Would this be a correct configuration
