Exchange gurus: Using Exchange as an SMTP router

Here's the scenario ... we're using Exchange 2003 for our mail server here at work, and I just finishing implementing a whole new project that uses the Exchange server to send emails.

I'm not 100% on the terms, but I think it is using SMTP Routing, whereby the application does not use an exchange account to send the mail, it uses the JavaMail API to do so, and just spoofs the email address of a dummy exchange account in case someone replies.

Here's my question ... is there a setting on the Exchange Server that will allow me to put the sent messages that are routed through SMTP into the Sent Items of an exchange account, thereby enabling some sort of email audit trail?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
