hoping someone could give me an easy answer to this. i just found out in order to backup exchange with backup exec, you need to install the exchange management tools on the backup server. since we were just backing up databases and did not have this installed, my question is would all previous backups be void since this was not installed? is this a REQUIREMENT in order to back up the data correctly, or are the tools needed only to perform some restore(after the fact). im asking because we cannot restart the backup server at this as its pending a reboot but probably wont take place for some time(32 bit).

thanks

You need to have Exchange Management tools installed on the Backup Exec server and the Backup Exec agent installed on the Exchange server. At first, I thought WTF do I need to install the Exchange Management tools, but it ended up not being a big deal. FYI, I was never able to get Backup Exec 11d to backup Exchange 2007, however, and ended up upgrading to v12.5.

As far as voiding previous backups: your question is on the vague side, but the answer is most likely no, you won't have any problems. Are these exchange databases, SQL db's, etc?
