When trying to run forest prep i get this error

The component "Microsoft Exchange Forsest Preperation" cannot be assigned the action "forestprep" because - either you do not have permission to update the Active Directory Schema or the Active Directory Service is too busy.

Now there were 2 domain controllers before but this is a old server we use for just testing crap out on like this upgrade, but i suspect its looking for the other domain controller.

how do i get around it, as i cant run the upgrade on the new servers untill i do a sucessfully upgrade on this old one..

Please ask if you need more information

Thanks in advance

Allanv

Are you using an account that has permission to update the schema?

I don't understand what you mean here. Is this old server a DC? In your current domain?

i had the correct permissions but it was down to the old DC, i found the answer later in the day i had to go into mmc and select the active directory schema and type in the server i wanted to control it, namely the one i was working on.

As the old DC is no longer on the domain neither is this exchange server, i only am using it to test the upgrade process

thanks anyway for your time
