Exchange 2000 server

I am trying to check my email on a exchange 2000 server that i just set up. (i have never done this before) I can get it at work but when i try at home, it says it cant find the server. I know that I dont have the SMTP server set up properly but that shouldn't affect my login process, just sending mail. Any reccomendations would be appreciated
 
I tried them both, but I think i have figured it out. The firewall at the university is blocking both ports which i need to have them open up on Monday.
