excessive line current

hi there guys... im using some inexpensive $30 modem.. actiontec 56k modem.... and i get an 'excessive line current' error every once in a while... no matter if im using the modem or not. the msg says to unplug the phone line to prevent further damage. does anyone know why this msg is popping up? im in a regular residential house w/ a regular phone line.

That message doesn't say what it means by "line current." Normally that term applies to your 110 a/c in the wall. If it is talking about the phone line, that is another matter. You could get surges over a phone line. Try connecting your phone line from the modem to a surge protector and from there to the wall.

If it is your main power, a UPS will take care of that.

hey corky-g... yeah, i have an internal modem.. so i cant connect it a surge protector.... unless you were talkin bout one made for a phone outlet. thanks for the info tho =P
