Excessive for an English competency exam?

Tomorrow I'm taking this English competency exam that is a requirement for graduation. The time restrictions seem crazy:

The ECE in Reading is a timed, standardized, reading test that is divided into two parts: Part I: Vocabulary (15 minutes/80 words/11 seconds per word) and Part II: Comprehension (20 minutes for 7 passages/38 questions/about 2 minutes per passage).

11 seconds per question? It takes 5 or 6 seconds just to fill in the stupid bubble on the Scantron.

For the comprehension part they recommend something called "cluster reading" which basically involves only reading every third word.

That could help you improve your English by means of speed reading. I've picked up the ability to quickly scan a passage for more...specific words to get the general idea of what's going on. Kind of like...instant cliff-notes.

It shouldn't be *too* bad.

Good luck!

Besides, if you think it's too little time, chances are a good deal of your test-mates think it's too little time too. It'll work out the same anyway, since they'll be taking the same test, right?

I'm pretty sure competency testes aren't graded based on the results of others. On a related note, you must not miss any questions, make something up if you don't know the answer.

A test i took for English placement was similar to that.....it's plenty of time, the questions normally aren't that difficult....
