hey

I had too much AS on my cpu (amd 64 3000), and i had to force it off the heatsink when removing it because it stuck there. so now i want re-install the cpu but there's still alot of AS on there. should I rub the top of the cpu with rubbing alcohol? what about re-applying AS on it, how much should I put? I put a very thin layer on the top of the CPU and that was it, yet it was too much? any advice? should I not put any AS on the heatsink?

thanks

>_> <_< what kind of alcohol. If its rubbing alcohol, then it should be fine. :)

EDIT:

Ok, i just googled "methylated spirit"...and as the name suggests, its not rubbing alcohol (isopropanol), but instead, its a methyl based alcohol that can be used as a fuel or something......i suggest that u just run over to the closest drug store and buy yourself a bottle of 99% rubbing alcohol. It should be cheap and easy to find ;)

yea that's what i did just now and couldn't find rubbing alcohol.. i guess i'll use water.
I'm in malaysia right now and can't really find any.

the situation is this. right now i have a cpu with "melted" AS as well as an HSF. I removed it from a previous setup. can i just re-use the AS on them or do i have to re-apply? would removing the excess AS with water/gentle scrubbing fix the issue i had initially?

Did u check out the website??? I would definetly not use water. If u must, then use the "methylated spirit" as a solvent (just a lil bit) ......it would probably leave less residue than water. You should not reuse the AS on the CPU/heatsink. I would most definetly want to clean it off and re-apply. Good luck
