Exceptional Egg Nog Recipes

Obviously, I could Google egg nog recipes, but I'm sure there are people here who know all the ins and outs of great egg nog. My apartmentmates and I are thinking about having an egg nog party, so, obviously, we want to have the best egg nog possible. Please share your recipes! Both alcoholic and virgin egg nogs are welcome.

Luscious Eggnog

INGREDIENTS:
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1/3 cup white sugar
salt to taste
2 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup rum (optional)
2 drops yellow food coloring
1 pinch ground nutmeg

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
In a heavy, saucepan, combine eggs, white sugar, and salt; gradually stir in milk. Stirring constantly, cook for 10 to 15 minutes over medium heat, until mixture just coats a metal spoon. Remove from heat, and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Place saucepan over ice water until custard cools, and then refrigerate until chilled.
In a chilled bowl, combine heavy cream, confectioners' sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat until stiff peaks form. Stir in rum and yellow food coloring. Fold whipped cream mixture into the cooled custard. Pour into serving bowl, and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve immediately.

I'm disappointed. I seriously thought there'd be a few secrets going around. Maybe egg nog just isn't as complicated as I'd like to think. 🙂

Costco has eggnog and rum!

Of course it does! But store-bought egg nog just doesn't compare to homemade... Oh well, thanks for the bumps and recipes. Looks like I'll spend some time on Google. 🙂

Simply add 1 oz of Amaretto liquor to a glass of egg nog, and it beats 99% of all the egg nog recipes out there. Simple and delicious.

omgeggnog...that thick creamy delicousness that only comes out 1 month a year...I can't wait for the stores to carry it 🙂
