Excellent signal strength, can't obtain IP address!

I just took this card out of my other desktop, and it worked fine for about a year. I just put it into a desktop in another room, and had no problems with installation. (Dell P4 2 Ghz, clean XP Pro install after format, SP1 included in XP install b/c it came with Dell Windows CD)

Anyway, it says I have excellent signal strength, but I can't get an ip address through DHCP. I tried ipconfig /release and /renew, but it times out. I don't have wep keys or mac address filtering enabled (until I get this to work). I also disabled the XP firewall.
I also tried WinsockFix, but that didn't solve anything. I tried contacting Linksys support, but it's been really busy lately.
I've updated both the router's firmware and the NIC drivers. I'm clean out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Try setting up WEP on both sides. Getting an association without getting an IP is classic WEP problems. Like your router has it enabled but your client does not, or vice versa, even though you say it's not configured. You could always just assign a static IP on the same network segment as your AP and start pinging. If you can ping then it's a DHCP issue on the router. If not I'd look at WEP as a problem.

I have 2 other machines on the network (1 wireless) that work without WEP. I've also tried using static IP, but it doesn't work either.

On my mom's netgear I had to disable WEP and just lock it down with MAC address. It worked fine for a month but then all of a sudden, no matter what wouldn't release an ip. I found threads on various forms and it's a bug where it the client sends a request but the ip header is mangled from the router.

I just now had a problem of not getting an IP addy. After cycling the power to the router it works again.

I had a similar problem getting my Linksys wireless router and NIC to get an IP as well. Basically it took power cycling the router and PC to get it to work.
Make sure your router is set up to give out enough DHCP address's. I forgot to change mine from 1 to 2 when I added my laptop. I also went in added the MAC address of the NIC to the filter table on the router to grant access to it.
