I definitely will have to construct one of these. It is basically a small computer that goes on the monitor cable between the pc and the monitor. I can just see peoples faces as they try everything to fix the pc that is having the problem :)

in case you were wondering what industrious hacker [Joe Grand] was doing when he?s not building stuff for Prototype This!, designing Defcon badges, or testifying before congress, it?s this: The BSoDomizer is a VGA pass through device that displays an image of your choice on the victim?s screen. It can do this either periodically or via an IR trigger. The image of choice is a Windows style Blue Screen of Death. It?s powered by a watch battery. The project site has all the schematics you need plus ASCII goatse imagery; you?ve been warned. Embedded below is a demo of the device. We unfortunately didn?t get to see it when it was originally presented during Defcon 16.

Want to buy a BSODomizer?

If you want to participate in the fun that is BSODomy, but don't want to build a unit from scratch with the information above, you're in luck. We've put together a run of 100 fully assembled and tested units. No unassembled kits are available, because there are too many fine-pitch surface mount parts that require some serious skill to put together and we don't want to provide lots of customer and technical support. The cost for the assembled units is $79 each plus $5 flat shipping for US/domestic orders. International orders will pay actual shipping costs. (The cost is more than we'd like, but in these quantities we couldn't get them any lower. If you build your own, you'll run a bill-of-materials cost of somewhere over 50 dollars, so for the extra money you're getting full assembly, programming and testing.) PayPal is preferred, but cash or money order is OK, too. Contact us for payment info.
