Excel quirk - mouse selects by default

I'm using Excel XP (2002) and I'm getting this weird problem where the mouse pointer is selecting cells that it goes over rather than just highlighting them like normal. Mouse works fine in all my other apps. Can't do escape, enter, or just plain typing to exit. Any ideas?

is it highlighting all the cells it passes over? without clicking anything?

if so remove the mouse driver and reboot.

Seen this before many times in work

I restarted, solved the problem. Curse Mouseware :|
