excel questions

2 excel questions.

1. Format a cell for date (9/25/06 format). When you type the date into the cell, it shows up as 1/00/00. No matter what date I type, I get the same thing. I even tried different formats like 25-Sept-06 and it will show 00-Jan-00. WTF is wrong?????

2. When clicking the open button and going to a folder that has multiple sub-folders and files, the slider bar is moved over part of the way to the right. Previously it would be at the far left side. While not a major problem, its a bit of an annoyance and I can't figure out how to get it to stay on the left side.

That might be because of the number of formulas or files in the folder. I know the open file box in Winamp will scroll all the way past the folders to the first mp3 file, maybe excel works the same way.

Not sure about the first question, that's bizzare. I can't replicate it.

thats what it does. it automatically goes to the 1st excel file in the parent folder. so if you have 2 "pages" of folders and then excel files under the paren folder, it automatically highlights the 1st excel file in the folder. i tested it out and thats what it does. now the question is, is there a way to prevent that?

damn, today must be excel help day. just got another problem i don't know the answer to.

user has 1 spreadsheet that they use to print labels. the cells and such are formatted in a special way to accomodate the label stock. all data is in 1 cell for each label.

same user has an old spreadhseet they used for old label stock they have 2 lines per label but 1 line in separate cells. so each label takes up 2 cells. is there a way to merge the 2 cells together to get both lines on 1 cell so we can copy that data into the new sheet with proper formatting?
