how do you deselect a row or column?

edit: i meant if you select a range of rows 1-20, and then wanted to deselect row 8. is this possible?

Here's a workaround. click row 1, while holding down ctrl button. move mouse to row 7, release mouse and ctrl button, hold down ctrl button again and click row 9 and drag down to 20.

yeah, i do that now but sometimes i need to deselect a few rows out of 50 or 80, which gets annoying. so it'd be easier if there was some way to deselect whichever rows you want.
