Excel pasting is messed up...

Normally, when pasting excel formulas, they are relative and update themselves if they are copied and pasted. For example, let's say cell C1 is '=A1+A3.' If I copy and past that cell to D2, I expect the equation to become '=B1+B3.' However, the equation is remaining constant. I don't know what setting was changed or how to fix it.

Another weird quirk. I have several cells with equations in them. When I delete the cells with the equations' variables, the values in the equation cells remain constant.

This is bugging the heck out of me and really messing with my productivity. I appreciate your help!

I've tried rebooting and running ccleaner.

I wonder how this setting (recalculation) got changed-this happened to me and my boss this week. I discovered it on my own and a couple of days later he called me into his office asking me the same question as OP.

Deleting cells is sometimes not what you want to do. Think CLEAR CELLS. That removes data and leaves formulae intact.
