EXCEL HELP: trying to input 27:55,

I'm posting this for a friend. He is trying to create a database for our online football league to keep career stats, but when he inputs the string 27:55, it gets converted to 1/1/1900 3:55:00 AM. How do you get around this? The number is supposed to represent time of possession.

right click cells, format cells, choose custom for category, find ":mm:ss".

mm:ss converts it to 55:00 and h:mm converts it to 3:55. neither are correct. 😕

Use mm:ss and enter it as 0:27:55
