Excel function grabbing the day of the week by a date in a cell

Is this possible?

Say I have a worksheet and I have the date in one cell. With that, would I
be able in another cell, have some type of code that says if cell A1 is this
date, to reference the Windows calender or another function, then place the
actual day in this cell.

 
You can also reformat the date in that cell to include the day of the week. Hit Ctrl+1 in the cell, and change the format to one that includes the day.
