Anyone tried it? I have chronic migraines which only heavy meds seem to fix (vicodin, etc.)

Today I decided to try Excedrin Migraine.

I must say it works well!

damn.. interesting. I use imitrex, and all that does is replace a migraine with a manageable headache. I may have to give Excedrin a shot.

Don't you love it when you finally find meds that works beautifully with your body?

I had these severe seasonal allergy and none of these Claritin or Benadryl would treat it. Then I tried the god-send known as Zyrtec. OMFG, it's my life saver. SO IS PRILOSEC!

I've had my best success with plain Excedrin Extra Strength. The mix of aspirin, acetominophen, and caffiene work for me.

Depending on the severity of the headache, I may need 3 or 4 at a time...but they work better than any narcotic pain reliever for my headaches.

I crew up with nasty migraines...the kind that earn a trip to the ER and a shot of morphine...fortunately, I've "grown out" of those, but due to a couple of "neck traumas" about 10 years ago, I get NASTY headaches that start at the base of the skull. Excedrin is the only thing that has helped with those. (gawd knows I have a big enough "candy box" full of all kinds of narcotic pain meds the doctors have given me...oxycontin, percodan, vicodan, valium, and many, many more...but they do nothing for the headaches.

Oddly enough, the ingredients in Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine are the same:

I need to get some of that then.. woke up yesterday with a migraine and the tylenol I took yesterday (didn't have anything else) only turned it into a headache. I thought it was gone when I woke up this morning, but the headache came back on the way to work.

I miss not being pregnant now. I used to take a similar thing, but in the form of BC Headache Powders. Now, I cannot take aspirin. Day 3 with this headache/migraine (it builds and releases a bit) is really getting to me.

Yep, Excedrin Migraine is the exact same as Excedrin Extra Strength.
Caffeine is supposed to help with migraines, which is probably why Excedrin works better than other OTC meds.

I've tried it and it doesn't stop my migraines. It's possible that it reduces the intensity, but that's hard to tell.

Imitrex is a life saver for me. My migraines start with visual aura, which I guess is a good thing because it means I get a 45 minute warning before the pain hits. My migraines used to include 3 to 4 hours of intense pain, followed by a dull headache for the rest of the day. But if I take an Imitrex and lay down as soon as I know a Migraine is starting, I never get the intense pain. I just end up with a mild headache, which feels like heaven compared to my usual migraine pain.

FYI, If your doc prescribes Treximet, don't buy it. It's the same drug as Imitrex, but also has Naproxen Sodium (Aleve). It's far cheaper to take Imitrex and 2 Aleve.

It works for the OP and I'm sure that's about 95% of what he's concerned about. Migraines can be debilitating, when I get them I'm often useless for a couple days even on meds (imitrex).

Excedrin Migraine is the EXACT SAME THING as Excedrin Extra Strength (and the generics of said extra strength). Look at the active ingredients.

250mg Acetaminophen
250mg Aspirin
65mg Caffeine

Paying more for marketing = FAIL.

It gets even cheaper if you buy a $3 bottle of aspirin, and a $5 bottle of extra-strength tylenol at costco, and use those + coffee to acheive the same effect.

And yet he probably didn't try it until it said migraine on it. Marketing WIN.

Of course he's better educated and can now purchase the extra strength knowing it's the same.

Same everything, except Zomig is my savior. I've discovered my trigger though (MSG), so no more migraines for me... at least nowhere near as frequent... can't even remember my last one.

Excedrin Migraine works wonders on me too, but so does aspirin. If I take an adult dosage of 2 pills of aspirin, I have a allergic reaction where I break out in itching and hives ll over my body and my skin swells up, not good but if I take 1/4 of 1 dose (half a pill) of aspirin or Excedrin, I'm good to go for the entire day (about 12 hours). Apparently, I'm hyper sensitive to aspirin.

Try Maxalt (Prescription), or for lighter ones, BC headache powders/Goodys (OTC)

I love that mix (I get generics) - coffee also helps a lot. Onions are my latest trigger, and MSG's just evil

Onions and Garlic do it sometimes to me, Milk is wicked. Odd thing about it is sometimes I can drink all the milk I want and nothing, a week later a single glass will have me on the floor

You know, I never drink milk but, when I do, I binge - and I do get the headache, but I assumed that was from 3 bowls of sugary cereal :)

If it doesn't work, try Treximet. My wife's migraines are terrible. Excedrin Migraine doesn't even remotely touch them. She used to use Imitrex which, like you, would make for a manageable headache maybe half the time. Treximet might be the first things that actually truly helps....usually. Sometimes nothing will do the trick and she just has to suffer through it.

Treximet = Imitrex + Aleve

If that combo works, that's great. But Treximet is expensive while Imitrex is available as a generic.

So just use Imitrex + Aleve for the exact same effect.

I might have discovered mine, but not sure yet. I haven't had a migraine since I stopped using Splenda, but it's only been about 6 weeks and even though the last few were only 3 or 4 weeks apart, it's also pretty common for me to go 3 or 4 months without having one, so we'll see. I didn't start getting migraines until about 2 or 3 years ago (I'm 37), and it seems like that's about the time frame when I started replacing sugar with Splenda, so I'm hoping I'm right.

Excederin is the only shit that consistently kills my/family's headaches.

It's a great cocktail of acetomophin, aspirin, and caffeine. It just throws everything at the wall and sees what sticks to cure your head hurt!
