Exactly which games/sound cards give WIN2k problems?

right now i'm using a vortex 2 sound card, and i've heard stories about it not working with win2k. besides that, which games work with win2k WELL, as compared to win98se? right now i play counterstrike, as well as quake 3. i'm going to be gettting another stick of 256 meg crucial ram, to bring my total to 512. i'll also have a geforce 3 in there as well. what should i do? i'm not one to turn my comp on and off, but i'm also not one that likes to leave the comp on for weeks on end. for me, i'd say win98se is fine, but i heard that 512 megs of ram with win98 does not work well. i heard that there will be slowdowns and such since win98 can't handle that much.

my vortex 2 could not run under win2k, had to get a live! value card. i can't get any of the games i've tried on here to work. i'm on the pre-release list for XP beta 2, so hopefully that will be more compliant.

What's a DAC?

In any case, the SC has better sound quality than the Vortex 2 (MX300 right?).

<< system shock 2 is NOT win2k compatible, so if you want to play it, you have to use win9.x >>

I don't have any problems with it in win2k, you must be doing something wrong.

I know several people using a vortex2-based card in win2k, with the latest beta drivers, who have no problems at all. A3D doesn't work all the time, and sometimes causes problems in CS, but other than that...Also if you are using a VIA chipset motherboard there is a fix you need to use.
I'd try the vortex2 before getting another card. For whatever reason I still haven't found a card that sounds as good as my SQ2500 (my Acoustic Edge is close though, and so is the Santa Cruz - but stay the hell away from a Live)
