i've read about 100 of these similar threads and people just say oh do this that or whatever, and i really am confused. i never OC'd before but i def. am no where near close to a noob when it comes to computers. i had my reasons for not doing it, but on my new system im building i plan to do it.

i am getting a gigabyte sli nf4 when someone has it for a normal price, and my 3500+ winchester is laying around. with a gig of crucial ballistix pc3200 waiting for it.

now heres my question, although i hate to ask it because i feel like im saying "someone tell me exactly what to do to get the best"..... well, what do i do to get the best out of my memory and processor.

i have read anand's review for the .09 3500+ and it said he was stable at 290*9 with stock voltage (1.4v). 2610mhz sounds great to me and i hope i can get that and its stable. now my question is doing this AND overclocking my memory too. how do i do it and not affect my cpu OC?

in general, i don't want to increase the cpu voltage much over stock, and according to anand i don't have to. thats fine and dandy - but what happens to the memory at that speed? does it run stock ddr400?

anyway, good luck to anyone who can figure out what im asking, i feel like im all over the place. sorry and thanks ahead of time.

:light:edited to add: i think i figured out what im asking lol.... say i OC the cpu using stock voltage or maybe a little more to get that 2610mhz. does my ram have to say stock?? how can i get my ram OC'd and keep that cpu OC the same. i feel it'd be a waste buying it if i hadd leave it stock for that CPU oc to work. if i have to leave ram stock, whats the best (off the top of ur head) compromise id have to make to OC ram and the processor together?

when you up the HTT to say, that 290 you are talking about, then you are effectively overclocking the ram to 290mhz too. unless of course you put a divider in which will run the HTT:RAM in whatever ratio you set it at. if you run the ram 1:1 then this means the ram will be running at DDR580. just remember that the HTT and the RAM frequency are linked

ahhhhh thank you very much.... making sense now....

according to the tests ive read, this ram can handle the ddr580, but in Anands reivew its not the best setting for highest performance (at least in games).... the highest 1T rate was 278 or ddr556...... so thats like 2.5gig core....

now to do this, the volatage on the ram has to be upped to 2.85v or so right?

if i turned up the HTT i need to up the voltage to the ram to make it run at the new speeds, and also the processor if needed (although anand made it to 2.6 with stock voltage)? also, is running at 1:1 the better way to go? ie. are there any drawbacks to haveing lower ratios like bottlenecking maybe?

i think this is all making sense now, and i know ill have slightly different numbers, but its just for reference....

someone let me know if im making a mistake here......

and god damn i wish i spent the extra money for the ocz rev.2
