Haven't used EAC in like 3 years so I reinstalled that and LAME VBR and tried to burn a disc... I got all the options set up right it looks like but when I click the "MP3" button it starts saving all the files as .wavs instead. When I hit the WAV button, it saves them all as WAVs :p - I remember having this problem back in the day also, but I've had success with this program so it's probably just a minor problem I've overlooked. I've looked in the options again and again though and can't figure it out. Can't rip my CD to MP3s even though the program is instructed to do so.

Note: I've never used this software or anything similar to it.

You say it "starts saving" files as .wav. Have you waited for it to finish to see if it does the transcoding to MP3 after saving the .wav file?

Apparently not.

:p

Are you sure it's not ripping to WAV, converting to MP3, then going to the next track?

Even when encoding to MP3 EAC will have to rip and save to wav format first, and then after each track is ripped the wavs will be converted to MP3.

If the encoder window isn't popping after you've finished ripping a track then there's probably something wrong with your encoder settings. Make sure everything is set up correctly, especially the command line options for the external compressor.

I had this problem as well, and can't remember what I did to solve it. Make sure you install LAME correctly, and that EAC is pointing to the right thing.

Here's the command line I was instructed to use:

-V 2 --vbr-new %s %d

I've tried it with no command line also and it does the same thing.

The first time I tried the rip I waited till it was finished to see if they would be converted to MP3 files afterwards, but they never did.

Here's what's in my EAC command line settings (mine is set up for MP3 V2 as well)

%l-V 5%l%h-V 2%h --vbr-new %s %d

Try copying and pasting this and see if that makes it work. Also what version of LAME are you using?

Well I'm trying it now but it looks like they're all going to be .wav again.

Using lame3.98.2

Follow this guide.
http://blowfish.be/eac/index.html

It was made using what was the latest version until the the update 21 days ago...

edit

From the EAC change log...

What?s new in version 0.99 prebeta 5
==============================

- Fixed a small bug in some of the CRC calculations
- Paths of 1000 characters in length (and file names up to 500 characters) can now be used (hopefully all command line compressors are still working)
- Fixed the creation of the correct CUE sheet in some cases when using current gap settings
- Fixed CDRDAO writing for multisession discs (leaving the CD open)
- EAC should not bring up its main window on using external compressors
- Fixed a small bug when correcting an extracted block
- Wizard now creates --ignore-tag-errors option for LAME encodings
- Fixed that on inserting a different CD sometimes not all tracks are extracted

So the guide should still work fine.
