Ex-Labour minister on Blair and "new-labour"

Lonyo

An old Labour minister, Tony Benn commented on Blair and his "new-Labour" government, saying Maggie Thatcher would be proud.

The humour in this comment, is that Thatcher was an old Conservative PM 🙂

Blairs privatisation and relations with America were things the Conservatives should be proud of.

If unrecontructed socialists like Tony Benn were still running the Labour party, they would have never won an election.

So what does the british conservative party stand for nowadays? A similar thing happened here in Canada, where the Liberals (tradionally centre left) have moved to the right over the past decade or so and have marginalized Canada's right wing parties to such an extent that there is no longer any viable opposition.

Sounds pretty similar to Britain at the moment, there are quite a few people who don't want Labour in power any more, but will still vote for them because they don't consider the Conservatives to be able to be a credible party.
