Athlon XP 2000+ @ stock speed (1.67 GHz)
512 PC133 SDRAM
GeForce3 Ti200

= 6173

I see its common to get 2, to even 2.5 times as much points as I do.
Would upgrade to GeForce4 TI4200 make much difference at this point?

(spare me the benchmarks are superficial lecture)

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that maybe your slow ass ram is the problem.

You think you should be getting 12,000 t0 15,000 with a Ti200?

Ship me a kilo or so of whatever you're smoking doode!

That sounds about right if the ti200 is @stock speed. If you oc the sh*t out of your memory and video card, you could probably get 9,000 3dmarks (depending on what your components will take and your willingness to modify the vga card). That's just a guestimate, though. My machines both run ddr memory, so it's hard to compare them with pc133. If it's Crucial, decent speeds are likely.

I think my system with 512mb ddr and a gf3 (original) scored around 7500 before I did things to it.:Q

Ironic.

Anyway, you're score is fine, considering the components you have. Of course you see other people with scores 2x what yours is...they have systems that are 2x better. You should also know that a good deal of the numbers posted on internet forums like this are...now brace yourself...lies! I know, I know...someone would actually lie to make themselves look better?!?! I must be crazy

But then...that gets us back to the whole ridiculousness of benchmarks that Mad 'Net Pimpers have been involved with as of late.

sdram vs. ddr sdram doesnt make that big of a difference. here's what happened to me:

System: athlon xp 2000+, ecs k7s5a, gf4 ti4200

512mb pc133 ram: 9500 3dmarks
512mb pc2100 ram: 10200 3dmarks

so even if you shell out 60$ for 512mb ddr, you wont see that big a difference. i returned the ddr ram, got my 60 dollars back, and im more than happy with my pc133 setup.

Well you need to look at situations.... SDR vs. DDR on the ECS K7S5A isnt a big deal no..... but SDR on a KT133A vs. DDR on a NForce 2 will much a MUCH MUCH bigger difference. That MB just isnt very fast with DDR.

Oh I know that my score is what I should have given my hardware. And no, I don't expect 15,000 points or even 10,000 with my hardware.
I realize those people have radeon 9800s and 3GHz chips etc etc. Just stating that I see people with huge scores as well as the fact mine sucks.

I'm just curious as to which component would increase the number much. Think I might get a Radeon9800 Pro and NOT for this benchmark heh. (That was the first time I've tried it and just cause I was curious). I like to game and my GeForce3 ti200 is showing its age even in counter-strike sometimes it dips when doing 1600x1200 with quincunx and 8x AA

3DMark is heavily video card dependent, so a video card upgrade would make the most impact on your score. Normally I'd advise not to base a purchase just to have a higher 3DMark score, but since you mentioned your current card isn't performing to your satisfaction in actual games, I say go for it and get a new card.
