EVO X First Look

"Clearly, the adventure chosen for the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is "potential." Although it has lost some of the sharpness that has defined previous iterations, the 2008 Lancer Evolution's combination of dexterity, comfort and style will undoubtedly bring more buyers into the Evo fold.

And proponents of hard-core Evos haven't been forgotten. A gleam in the eyes of the Mitsubishi engineers hints that a few keystrokes in the computer mapping of S-AWC can dramatically alter the car's personality. Couple this magic with weight reduction and some goodies from the lab, and the makings are in place for a Mitsubishi Evo RS model that might take us on a completely different adventure."

I really like the new look and the interior looks 100% better.

I swear my Oct '07 Car and Driver states that the motor will be a carry over from the previous gen but confirmed here and other places, it's an all new aluminum block.

Maybe it's just because I've got a killer headache right now, but that was painful to listen to. Why does he say Evo that way? Evo is short for Evolution. The way you pronounce the Evo part shouldn't change once you drop off the 'lution' part.

They got a 0-60 in 5 sec and 1/4 in 13.8 looks like some of that pork has hurt its straight line prowess but they say it handles infinitely better which is a huge plus

It did say that, because details were slim at the time of publication. All they knew was that hp was unchanged so they made an incorrect assumption.

I didn't watch the video (I just read the text), but did he pronounce it as Ay-voh or Ee-voh rather than Eh-voh?

did you ever see the "evo eclipse"? That looked a lot nicer.

Still with Suburu's ruining the looks of their car and Mitsu continuing to make theirs better...

I think I have a bit of a beef with the price, $40K is a lot even for all the goodies.

I also feel that all models should get HID's, if your car is over $30K HID's should be included, IMHO.

Too bad it's a Mitsubishi...

Sorry, not all of us can afford a Lotus 😉.

Mitsubishi has not enjoyed the greatest reliability record on the planet. That was where I was going with my comment. 😉

He was saying it Ee-voh like in the word he and not Eh-voh like in the word Evolution.
IDK if it even matters which way it's said (probably not), but it was just annoying to listen to last night.

I know, I was just pickin' 😉. My old DSM may not have been the pillar of rock-solid craftsmanship (it was half Chrysler, you gotta cut Mitsu some slack...), but the engine (Mitsubishi 4G63) was and still is highly touted as being quite good/strong.

I could see how it'd get annoying.

I'd love to get the chance to test the car on a track though... I think it'd be a lot of fun 😀.

I don't know. That 2/3 camo'd STI that's lapping the ring looks awesome except for the ugly ass tail lights.

I think Mitsubishi is better at making engines and transmissions than anything else on the car. I knew a guy with an Eclipse, and his door handle fell off. How hard is it to make a door handle that doesn't fall off when you use it? The car only had about 60k on it at the time.

It does matter. And you are wrong. The correct pronunciation is EE-voh. Long vowels on both, accent on the 1st syllable. This is because the British pronunciation of the word evolution is with the long e on the first syllable. Short e is the Americanized pronunciation.

Lol, I knew a guy that the door handle fell off on his Eclipse too.

I have to say: so? The British pronounce quite a few things differently. The voice over guy at Edmunds pronounces evolution the American way, why change the pronunciation of the abbreviation? It's not like you hear him saying "Jag-you-are" or "Por-sha."
I don't really care either way, like I said, it was just simply annoying to listen to him when I had a killer headache.

So is that you were bitching and you were wrong. It is EE-voh. This is a rally-derived car, and most Americans don't even know what rally is, so no pronunciation is being changed... really. And headache or not, you're gonna get funny looks from Evo owners if you insist on pronouncing it Ehv-oh. It's like saying Nike as only one syllable.

They pronounce it Eh-voh in Initial D 😱. Well, I don't think they ever say it in the show, but the battle stage says it often since there were 3 (maybe 4?) races with Evos (III and IV if I remember correctly).

You seem pressed to call me wrong when I really don't care.. you can give it a rest now. And while you can probably quote selective parts of some of my posts to "prove" otherwise, it's not like I'm taking a stance one way or the other on how it must be pronounced, it's just my opinion on what I think sounds better (right or not) to me. I really don't care which way is proper, I just found the announcer annoying.
And I don't think I've ever seen an Evolution in person. I'm not worried what their owners might think about me.
