Has anyone compared evo to droid x (as a user) and if so any comments between the two phones? I'm located in Boston and have read and compared the phones (as much as possible without actually owning either). Form factor I have a slight preference for the droid x. Plan price is $80 for the evo vs $65 for the droid x. I currently have sprint. Phone cost is $299 vs $199 and if I went with driod x ETL would be around $100 (the driod x is $299 since I would buy it with a 1 year contract).

Kind of curious if anyone has spent more than a few days using BOTH phones and have any comments (major factor would be screen quality; battery life and ringer/in call volume when not using headphones device).

I'd like to pick up a new phone tomorrow or sunday during no-tax weekend.

They're both good phones. You must be getting a big discount on the Droid X plan, normally Sprint is cheaper than Verizon. Sure you can't also get a discount with Sprint?

Verizon is cheaper because I don't need texting (required by sprint) and sprint mandatory $10 for 4g.

? Texting isn't required by Sprint. Just pick a plan with no texting.

I would go with the X hands down. I used the EVO for a month and the X is a much better phone imho.

Can you elaborate on the X being a better phone; not disagreeing just want to understand what you disliked about the evo and liked about the X.

btw I want to drop the issue with service (verizon vs sprint) and focus more on the two phones.

Sprint does "require" texting in that all of their data plans include unlimited text messages. Verizon's plans cost the same but do not have text messages. So it's an advantage to Sprint if you want texting and a wash if you don't. However, Sprint's $10 EVO fee pushes it up a bit.

Similar situation with family plans. The minimum Verizon plan with 2 data lines costs $130/mo, but again that's with no texting on either line plus 700 shared minutes. The $130/mo Sprint plan is 2 lines, data, texting, and 1500 minutes. And then again $10/mo for each EVO.

Verizon doesn't have a $65/mo smartphone plan unless the OP is getting a discount somehow. Do you have the "Loyalty" plan with fewer minutes?

EDIT: Sorry, you wanted to get back to the phones themselves. Unfortunately I don't have experience with either one.

Loving my DX a ton, theyre also getting past the bootloader issues, so I wouldn't necessarily make that a big point of contention if you're into that thing.

Battery life on my DX has been great, I very rarely worry about it. I'm sure 2.2 will only improve that.

I have an EVO which I love and spent some brief time with the X. To things that really stuck out on the X, first the hump. Not a huge deal but I just really don't like it. Second is the hardware keys. On the phone I used they sucked, not very well defined and just felt crappy in use. I much prefer well implemented capacitive buttons. That's JMHO. I get a sweet deal with Sprint so VZW is out for me just on plan price alone.

Sorry. Sprints plans include texting and I never really paid attention like other sites where you have to add a texting plan separately from data/voice.

EVO - Nice phone. A bit bulky now that I'm used to the X. Don't like sense (not that blur is any better). Bad to decent battery life (depending on whether you stick a custom rom in it, which can improve it significantly). Hardware was just ok (was always scared I was going to get screen separation issues). Did not like the 30fps cap on the phone (due to hdmi HTC says, but the X doesn't suffer from it). It makes the phone seem alot slower than it is. Video quality was just meh. Camera software was great (X's camera software is junk). Capactive buttons were great (unlike N1's). You can load stock Android ROM's for the most part, which is a huge plus.

X - Amazing battery life. Ability to get an official extended battery (1900 I think) that adds virtually no bulk at all. I like the form factor better than the EVO - it's much skinner. I like the dedicated camera button. Hardware buttons are just ok, but they cheapen the phone's looks. LOVE the three mics for video recording (concert vids come out pretty damn good). Build quality just seems so much better. Dual antenna design. Verizon's download speeds are slow compared to Sprint (at least for me in Los Angeles non-4G). No touchscreen issues (I did not run into it on the EVO, but the fact that it is there just shows the hardware quality). The bloat on this phone is just bullshit (and you cannot remove it without stupid things happening when you factory reset). Camera software is complete ass.

The community around the EVO seems better, simply because you can use custom roms and there is alot of discussion about them. Umm, not sure what else. I love the X alot more for sure though.
