i think it was already announced but unofficially. hugo, rolento, poison, one of the chicks from sf3 (forget her name) and then 1 more person they didn't announce.

personally i'm not really excited for it. i'd rather hear about sf5 or a totally new game. they're basically using the sfxt models for the other guys and putting them in sf4.

Yeah I'd rather see a new game too. Not too excited...SSF4 is already old. It is still popular but it is also old. I think titles like Skullgirls are more interesting personally. Even though I totally suck at that game and get beat by the CPU all the time lol

It's too bad they screwed up SFxT so badly that it's worthless to play. I had fun with it at first but seeing almost every match end with a time out is lame.

So, they just teased Chief Thunder in their 5FPS video teaser. At least, they teased a tomahawk!

While we're on the fighting game topic here...

I went back and played old favorites like Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition and Street Fighter Alpha and I must admit, playing SSF4:AE so much with it's more fluid controls makes it extremely difficult to pull off simple moves in the older games that are slower. You really have to be deliberate in your control. I felt like a total noob again lol.

Is it like this for anyone else? I mean my control in SSF4:AE just feels spot on where I can perform qcf and hcf moves at will with no issues, but when I went back to play the older iterations I felt like I couldn't do them sometimes at all.

the control in sf4 is WAY more leniant than sf2 and older games. the reversal window is also a lot bigger in sf4 compared to the old ones.

crazy that infiltration just beat pr rog with hakan.

Maybe it is the slower gameplay as well. I love how everyone now claims tiers are worthless now after evo results. That is not really true. Nobody said a good player could not master a lower tier character and win. It just takes more skill to be that good.

Tiers are only going to do so much though. It all comes down to match up knowledge and ability to defend set ups. Reading a 50/50 mix up has very little to do with the tier of your character, unless you have one of those absolutely awful characters that have no wake up or some other problem.

Hakan is considered pretty bad, because he requires his oil to be effective. With oil, I guess he is pretty good. It helps that he is a hard counter to Balrog, and PR Rog was playing rather recklessly at that point. He should have been more patient and forced Infiltration to advance on him rather that the latter.

That was such a great top 8 though, it sucks it was overshadowed by the amazing top 8 of Marvel. F Champ losing to an unknown pad player. Justin clutching it out against Chris G. Justin's comeback against Flocker in GF with only Akuma. Man, I want to say Justin deserved to win, but Flocker played damn near perfect. =(

Right but it doesn't make them worthless. Some characters are just more balanced and make it easier to do well in a match. No guaranteed wins but I think it helps less skilled and newer players more anyway. We all know it is easier to learn and do well with ryu than zangief for example. Some people took the tiers too literally and claim that anyone on S tier can beat anyone else no problem. Not so at all. You still gotta practice and know how to exploit strengths and weaknesses.

This is true. In general the dexterity and timing was far less forgiving in Super Turbo; I remember in SSF2Turbo, doing 2 in 1's into supers were impossible unless you were completely on point. Even something that was relatively simple in later games such as low forward 2in1 into super fireball - the timing had to be so impeccable and precise and most could not master at. Reversal timing was downright tough unless you had incredible reflexes and dexterity. Whereas now, the dexterity required to play well is far lower. That isn't to say that SF4/AF aren't good, they're great games. But the control is WAY more lenient as compared to SSF2 Turbo, as an example.

Fortunately, at least SF4/AE isn't dumbed down to a level of something like SF Alpha 2 or something along those lines.....that was a fun game but it was also completely mindless. Nonstop custom combos and alpha counters. You could literally win with Ken doing Alex Valle-type custom combos and his high damage kick alpha counter and absolutely nothing else. Completely stupid and mindless game which didn't require positioning, strategy or dexterity whatsoever. Just do a custom combo with full meter and take 80% of someones life just like that. I almost feel like SFA 1/2 were like the Marvel games of the Street Fighter world, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Anyway, all that aside....it was a great tournament. I was pleasantly surprised that PR Rog did so well, and also surprised that Infiltration didn't win SF4AE. After seeing him at 2012 EVO I thought for sure the tourney was his.

That sounds about right. The slower gameplay of non turbo titles in the street fighter series, and the more precise control required combine to make me feel like a new player again :D

I guess that so much of a certain style of play causes me to be accustomed to doing things a certain way. Basically I can be sloppy with my stick movements and get away with it. Gotta tighten up. I'm actually enjoying playing the older games in the series a bit. Change of pace and a little nostalgia. I remember waiting in line for 30 minutes to play SF2:CE and lose $.50 in 20 seconds and wait another 30minutes to play the same dude again who just beat me basically the same way lol.
