Evo drivers around town...

Evo and STI drivers seem to feel like they have something to prove. Since the cars look like regular economy cars except for a giant wing, bigger wheels and a few pieces of plastic, they are always looking for a race, seemingly to prove that their car is actually fast.

It's actually really rare that I see a well known sports car like a Corvette going really fast.
 
Many (if not most) seem to be driven by the fanboy/boy racer type. There's a lot of competition at that price point and it takes a certain type of person to opt for the car with the giant wing and gold wheels. 😛
 
Only Evo driver I know is a nice Guatamalan kid, he never seems to drive over the speed limit. Guess he must have worked really really hard to earn that car.
 
I drive an 06 Tacoma Prerunner, not exactly a vehicle that would provoke "Fast and Furious" wannabes into a frenzy.

This morning on my way to town, I have to drive about 5 miles on a 55mph road, I was doing 70, and this Evo was tailgating me. Once it was clear to pass, he blew by me like a bat out of hell. I am only guessing he was doing 90+ but, there was no point. I think he stopped to get gas, because he ended up behind me on another 55mph road a little while later, and did the same thing. Tailgate, then blowing by me, when I was once again going 70.

I see them zipping around town to with their cherry popping mufflers, trying to race everyone, when most of us are just trying to get through town.
 
I've never had problems with Evo drivers... I actually considered buying one too, but decided against it. No problem because I :heart: my pappy mobile!
 
I see two evos regularly on my way to work, both of them are driven by younger guys, but both drive normally... maybe they are not awake yet. To my surprise, yesterday was my first time seeing a corvette be driven aggressively. The young driver got the tail loose in several corners while providing my ears with some good music.
 
usually they are ok where I am at. Ironically its typically the people in trucks that drive like real assholes here.
 
Every one I've seen has been very serious business when driving, like they're actually competent *GASP*. I suppose I'm just lucky.

One of my apartment neighbors has an STI and managed to coax about 600 HP out of it. He drives it very carefully, only speeds occasionally, and only races on the track.

From what I've seen, most people who have the mechanical and technical knowledge to make a beautiful racing machine tends to have more than a sliver of common sense. I suppose that doesn't apply so much for people who just shell out the money for a plain EVO or STI, but I don't see many stock ones anyway.
 
I think the more accurate picture is that, in an Evo/STI/modded WRX, the rest of you seem like you're in slow motion. It's not about having "something to prove," it's just that even a Corvette or a Mustang doesn't have the combination of speed AND in-city traffic agility that an Evo or STI has. It's because they're rally cars, not track cars.
I mean, I totally understand. My daily is a modded WRX, but my other is a 93 Toy 4x4. So I know what it's like to get into the left lane to pass and all of a sudden have some punk on your ass flashing his beams because your 50-to-70 is 30+ seconds and you're in his way. But OTOH, I also know what it's like to be that punk in the fast car where 50-to-70 or a high speed lane change could happen from an accidental sneeze. 😛
 
Don't see many of those around Tucson and usually traffic is so bad that nobody can really do anything bit sit still or follow tail lights, there really isn't room to maneuver or speed. You have to wait until someone in the lane next to you is slowing down to turn and then get in front of them if you need to get over... crappy ass overpopulated underdeveloped city. Signals to lane change around here just make people tailgate closer...

What I love is people is who are content doing 50 in the left lane all by themselves who want to do 90 all of the sudden when you start casually creeping an inch past their front bumper or when you get over and they speed up to ride your ass as if you cut them off or something... I'll just roll by someone like that in 6th gear at 1100 RPM (as I have been for the last mile or so) just minding my own business when all of the sudden I hear them step on it... it's quite funny. Oh well it keeps my snake fed 😛

What I hear are really bad are SRT-4s given the price range is right in the ballpark of that age range. But I don't even see too many of those around, much less modified. Plenty of ricers with bondo'ed Civics and lifted & altezza'ed 4x4s (we call them "Mexican trucks" around here because thats what you will always see driving them) though.

The good thing is that there aren't many of them around. I have yet to see one at a track day with me yet.

 
i recall an incident i had with a tuned evo. my actions towards the evo could easily have been mistaken for a challenge and he kept everything legal while i was the one going 100+ (i was in a rush..had no intention of racing anyone). so i vote No.

The car doesn't make the people tools. They're already tools, it just so happens they were fortunate (unfortunately for us) to have a fast car.
