As seen on Automotive News

<< Mitsubishi has launched three new models this fiscal year, and will launch eight new models next fiscal year and five new ones the following year, for a total of 16. Thirteen of those will go on sale in Japan. How many will be launched in the U.S. market each year?

In the U.S., we had the Lancer this year. Next year, Airtrek and Lancer Evolution. And then in fiscal 2003, there will be three models.

Good... no word on how bastardized its gonna be tho...

Tons of other info in the article though :)

Oh joy, yet another ugly ass, big winged $13,000 sub-compact economy car with $13,000 worth of go fast goodies to flood the market:disgust:

I'll take a new 350Z for that money

Praise the Z all you want

The Evo is a awesome machine. While its main competition is the WRX, I'm sure we'll see the Evo competing with the big boys.

AND it will own your Z at the drag strip. :)

wtf???

the tommi makinen evo 6 is one of the world's most elite supercars with a japanses govnt limited 280hp 4g3t 2.0 dohc engine and 4 wheel drive it is basically a subraru wrx-sti rival. with just a ralliart ecu upgrade the horse count is boosted to 340horses and it can keep up with a viper in the quarter mile. and yet it still is one of the top WRC cars. it is a true monster both on and off road.

The Evo is about as subtle as a clown at Marilyn Manson concert (big wings, ground effects, hideous front air damn with pie plate driving lights; you get my drift). I'll take the elegance, V6 power, Skyline derived rear suspension, and rear-wheel drive bias of the 350Z over the transverse mounted, hyped out 4-banger in the Evo.

If I'm spending $26 - 30k on a car, I don't even want to think about the Lancer which it is based on. I want something original. Speed isn't everything, I want the whole damn package! :)

i have to agree with NFS4. The lancer and the civic look exactly alike, fugly. Could a car get any more generic than a 2002 civic? It has no outstanding features, whatsoever.

You are automatically bashing the evo for its wing and effects.

Unlike my of the hideous riceboys that run around, the Evo actually has the power to effectively make use of better aerodynamics. Its functional and quite frankly, I'd be glad I had a big wing pushing the backend down on that car.

Its not another Civic. Perhaps in time you'll realize this.

Actuallly, this car caters more to the rally people... you know, 2.0 liter engine, sub-compact economy car... Different class of car than the 350 Z.

I know that the Lancer has the power to back up it's riced out looks, that's fine. But, I'm not one that believes in taking a cheap $13,000 economy car and adding $13,000 worth of stuff to it to make it go faster. I'd rather buy a more purpose built machine than a $13,000 economy car with some "balls"

Would I choose an EVO over a quality machine like the Audi A4? No. Would I even choose one over a 3.5 liter Altima SE? Probably not. And when it comes down to the interior, it's gonna take more than Recaro seats and some carbon-fiber esue interior trims bits to please me (or to even shake off the $13,000 econo car disease).

Ya know, for the bashers, have you even driven this car? Or the WRX? Both cars corner like their on rails. So I dunno how their anything like Civics with cut springs...

Rice is only rice if it has absolutely no use on a car like Type-R stickers or a huge ass spoiler on an FWD car. But the Lancer's spoilers and ground effects are actually used for something.

To me thats not rice.

Uhh... it has MAD balls. If you want to bash the Evo because its not as high a class of car, like the new Z, fine, thats your opinion.

I'd take a Evo over a A4 and a Altima SE AND the new Z. It has a purpose which it achieves well. It dominates areas of performance. It simply fits my tastes.

But will the US-spec Lancer Evolution be anything like this? I doubt it. :( At the very least, it will be based on the Evo VII, not the VI, right?

Supposedly the VII, no word on if they're going to neuter the cars power. I'm still excited nontheless

Yeah, I know... :disgust: Hopefully they'll just put in resonators like Suburu did, then I could just rip em out :D

Well hey, how about this... we'll go duke it out on the mountain! You bring your 350Z or whatever luxury car you want, and I'll bring my friend's WRX. First one down the mountain wins okay? Now while I'm at the bottom eating McDonald's in the crappy economy car with 4wd, I'll see a 350Z tumbling down the mountain...

But seriously, the car has a purpose. WRC has strict rules on what type of engine can be used and such and such. So basically the manufacturer's take a cheap car andput hte biggest engine they can, add 4wd, and then race that. So yes, it is purpose built, but not for luxury or staidness...

Rice? RICE???? WTF are talking about RICE!!!!!

The Evo is not rice. Try driving one, before you bash it. I usually agree with your assesment of cars NSF4 but you are way wrong on this one. No all wheel drive car from the factory should be called RICE!! I'm gonna have to start refering to Big American cars that think that throwing more cylinders on an engine make it better, ie Dodge Viper, as Wheat. The big crop here in America.

Your just pissed that somebody made a 4 banger sub $30k car compete with the mucho expensive Euro and "wheat" cars. Boohoo. Inginuity and creativity makes a better car, not adding more cylinders.

Hrm, Radeon, can you tell me more about this? I don't know a lot about cars, so what are resonators?

The WRX came over with about the same amount of power as the Euro version of the car. Hopefully the EVO will come over with about the same as well. We are talking sub-300 horse power, so I don't see why they would have any reason to try and restrict power other than for emissions.

I agree, the stock WRX headlights look like ass, but thats why you need to get headlight mods. I'm leaning more and more away from a truck towards the WRX, and if I do end up getting one, it will have headlight mods like the following:

Pic 1
Pic 2

That looks much better, don't you think?

LOL, yeah, I hear that :D, actually I have had left my truck full DOT cause of the series I raced it in :( Now that I'm gonna lift it and just use it for Hauling/Towing and 4x4 I could change that, but I put on a offroad pipe one time and man it was just too loud with the SC and the tuning :(

With a 4 or 6 banger tho it wouldn't be hard at all ;)
