IMO that's for general EVO discussion... Since this is about a specific ROM I see no reason why it can't have its own thread.

If a mod wants to merge them, that's their call. A CM ROM available will factor heavily in purchase decisions for my next smart phone.

It would be nice to have 4G ironed out...

I was going to hold off flashing, but I just have this urge to change things up. I've had the phone for a whole month now after all.

Weird that 4G isn't support since Froyo has support for it natively (unlike 2.1).

Nice. I might give it a try, but I do use 4G so it's not going to be my "every day" ROM just yet. Interesting that they incorporated all of the FPS fixes into the kernel, but also got cameras, full BT, etc working with Froyo. The other guys packaging up 2.2 ROMs for the Evo hadn't gotten nearly that far.

I have high hopes for this. I wonder if I need to flash the Wimax and Radio updates if I'm already running the latest rooted OTA.

I broke down and installed tonight and so far so good.

One issue is that many of the apps I had installed are missing from the Market, such as Handcent SMS.

Closest 4G signal is 60 miles away. As long as the camera and MMS is fixed, I'm in!

I'm not sure if MMS is working with the latest build (last nights) however I've heard reports of others having it working, so if it isn't working now it most likely will in the near future.

Mms receiving works, sending seems to have issues. I was able to break 40 with Linpack, however 36 seems to be the average. No overclock ATM.

They say it does with SetCPU but haven't tried it yet. Still getting it set-up. A lot of apps aren't showing in the market and may be the deal killer for me for now.

I would like (at minimum) Handcent and Swiftkey Beta. I have friends with Handcent on Froyo (on a Droid), so maybe CyanogenMod is having issues right now with it. It's understandable since these are just nightly builds so far.

For the record MMS is now working. The next nightly should include the patch, but if you have adb on your machine it's not too hard to apply the patch yourself.

Also, Froyo is FAST... lots of subtle animations added that improve a lot. Also I believe this ROM removes the 30fps limit on the EVO so that probably helps too.

The modified kernel (30 fps fix) is probably what's introducing the other bugs, like random MMS errors, 4G, etc. I'm probably going to wait for that to settle down.

Probably a good idea, although I will say Froyo is much closer to iOS in terms of smoothness, especially on a Snapdragon. I'm curious to see how HTC will adapt the Sense UI to Froyo.

To be quite honest, I think 2.1 w/ Launcher Pro and the 3D App Drawer is a superior experience to iOS. Launcher Pro is very smooth, scrolling wallpapers look awesome, and widgets (with variable size, no less) really make it better. I've used 2.2 a little bit with some of the earlier ROMs (Evolution v7 might've been my last shot) and found Froyo to be very fast and very smooth, but nothing I had to have this minute.

As for Sense, I don't mind it but once I found Launcher Pro, I was off of it. About the only thing I really miss are the HTC Widgets, which will only run in Sense. I like that they all looked and worked the same and matched. The guy who writes Launcher Pro is doing a paid version now with widgets, and his current price is good enough to buy in on that. $3 or something stupid.

The one thing I still haven't found is a great music player. Cubed is ok, bTunes is ok, but nothing great. For instance, all of them are heavy on repeats when you shuffle. Of them that I've tried, only bTunes lets you triple-click the headset button to track back.

Still nothing that I'd go back to iOS over, but I do miss the music player.

I do prefer 2.1 to iOS as well, but there is merit to the argument of the "smoothness" of iOS. I didn't notice the loss when I stopped using my iPod Touch and got my EVO, but after a month with the EVO and using my buddies 3G iPod Touch with iOS 4, the increased smoothness was definitely noticeable. I got the same sensation when upgrading to CM6.

Froyo adds a lot of animations when opening/closing apps and switching views, but the EVO can now do 60 fps (with CM at least) so I might look into seeing if I can get an app to cap the FPS so I can get a reference of how Froyo feels at 30 fps.

Being a nerd I do enjoy the extra tools that Google provides, such as being able to put the phone in debug mode and manage it easily with ADB. When I Jailbroke my iPod Touch, I remember feeling like it was actually a bit slower/buggier than stock while my experience with Android is exactly the opposite. Granted I coupled my rooting on Android with the upgrade to Froyo which is responsible for most of the speed gains, but I find it amazing that the Homebrew community can get a ROM mostly operational on a device months before the devices manufacturer releases an update. I know a lot of people get annoyed when Android being "open" is touted as a plus, and this is exactly why being open is a good thing.

You can get teh Handcent APK with little trouble if you look. Haven't looked for swiftkey, don't care for it. I like swype.

Yea I discovered this. For some reason downloading the apks with the phone would result in corrupted downloads every time. I had to download with a pc and push it to the phone over USB.

Also Handcent now has a window that pops up with a quick reply box when you get a message. I think this is Froyo only.
