I recently had to remove my ethernet card, and when i put it back in my internet diddnt work, i'm using a us sertek 5 port internal hub connected to a terayon cable modem. now when i try to connect at all it cant find any servers, but if i go into winipcfg(win98 first release)and hit release and renew, i get my regular ip. anyways, i called my isp they said it was a dns error or something, they offered to fix it for $60 an hour and they would have to leave it there for 24 hours, and i'm sure you can guess what i said to that. so anyone that can help me here, please do, thanks.

Removing and replacing adapters can foul up registry hardware settings because of retained duplicate entries. Remove all NIC and network entries from device manager - then remove NIC from the computer, reboot, go into device manager and make sure all NIC and network entries are gone. Then, put back the NIC and reinstall everything.

I do quite a bit of troubleshooting in the Network CP and most of them have been covered already. You might want to remove "Communications" and then add it again in the Add/Remove Programs CP, but I doubt that would help with a cable modem. It does with dialups, however. Reseating the NIC, replace all adapters in the Network Control Panel, check all advanced TCP/IP Properties for your Network Adapter..
