This is a picture of my cat:

My Cat

As further proof, here is a picture of a friend's cat:

Friend's Cat

Here is a picture of what my cat like's to do when he gets out of the house:

Dying Squirrel

The cat captured it, brought it in the house, tourmented it, ripped it's tail out and left it for dead outside. I found the squirrell in the morning, still breeding but hardly moving. It died later on during the day.

I don't like cats but my wife does and thats the only reason we have one around. It is imposible to keep it inside. As soon as I open a door to go on the deck or somebody gets in or out of the house, out the cat goes. It kills birds and squirrels not for food, just for the fun of it.

I like the small animals that comes on my deck. Here are a few pictures.

Yellow Bird

Small Bird

Squirrel 1

Squirrel2

I feel like giving that cat the same kind of treatment it gave the squirrel.

Is it time for Lucky the cat to get unlucky?

Note: I will not act on any recomendations presented in this thread. This is just a cat bashing exercise.

Well, that is normal behavior for cats. They are natural born hunters. The cats that my parents have kill things that are up to half their size. Also, I have seen dogs do the same thing, it just depends on the animal's personality

Also interested in the type of lens & camera you used for those shots, especially the bird shots :)

Why do you let Lucky outside?

Read my original post.

I did and it still doesn't explain why you let the cat out. Unless you have small kids there is no reason that you and your wife could not keep the cat in the house. If you have company lock the cat up in a room so your guests don't let it out otherwise all it takes is you and your wife exercising care not to allow the cat to go out the door with you. It will eventually lose interest in trying to get out every time the door opens.

My parents have a 13 year old house cat, which they don't leave outside. It STILL tries to escape every time someone opens the door! My cat is the same way, except that it's a lousy hunter and never seems to catch anything when he gets past me and escapes.

1- you can control it...it just takes a little work.

2- cats are natural born hunters....they kill because it is in their nature to do so. It would be unfair to punish the cat for what is their nature...if you do punish it (them) they will not understand why and simply continue the pattern.

Solution?
find a way to keep it indoors.

You could try putting some bells on the cats collar so that it makes noise when he is trying to sneak up on his prey.

I was thinking more along this type of collar:

Cat Bell

We've had as many as 13 cats living in our house and manage to always keep them inside, even the feral ones that really want to get out. Since we have dogs as well we are going in and out all the time with them and manage to keep the cats inside. It generally takes nothing more than a good nudge with the foot before opening the door and not leaving it wide open unattended.

You ARE the legendary crazy cat family.....;) 13 cats, WOW. Seriously, the moment I don't pay attention or if I leave the patio door open for a second to pick up somthing on the deck, out goes the cat.
Frustrating.

You're upset at your cat for acting like a cat? that makes sense.

I don't like you because you posted this thread, is it time for number1 to eat number 2?
