eVGA warranty

I just got a eVGA 7900GT used and he said he never registered it. As old as these cards are is it possible for me to register and get some type of warranty?

They usually require an invoice, so if you can get the original invoice from him, maybe.

If the card is unregistered it only has a one year warranty so the invoice isn't going to make much difference ... also note that the card would have had to have been registered within 30 days of purchase to validate the lifetime warranty

So if he bought it say 6 months ago it would have roughly 7 months warranty left? Would I have to show the invoice to get it RMA'ed?

12 months from invoice date, and yes you'd have to show invoice. Also, depends on part number as some eVGA cards do not have a lifetime warranty regardless.

Selling eVGA cards and claiming they have a lifetime warranty is kind of a scam, IMO. Yes SOME eVGA cards technically MIGHT have a lifetime warranty, but no, you are not going to have a warranty on an eVGA card you bought used.

If the original guy registered, just have him change the address to your own. Have the original guy give you his invoice and send it in. Could maybe get away with it.

But of course, that's up to you, since that's probably considered scamming.

Owell I am just gonna have to torture test it when it gets here. eVGA bites when it comes to their warranty. Good way to keep ppl from buying used I suppose.

EVGA's warranty is ok, but having to register it within 30 days of purchase to get the full warranty that they advertise on some of their cards sucks (not that it's hard to register the card). XFX's new double lifetime warranty transfers over to the person you sell your card to.

Yeah its perfect if you buy new but I don't always buy new. Yeah XFX is nice for that.

Heh. I remember back when people were claiming that eVGA had the best damn warranty out there. Well, at least you can RMA it if you burn it up while OCing...

Found out the card was bought on Aug of last year(invoice). The new 30 day register thing didn't start till Nov I think. Is it possible this card can still be registered and be able to get lifetime warranty on it?

No. You have to register the card within' 30 days after purchase or it's null and void. It's already been stated in this thread :)

I know it was. Its just that the way I understood it only cards bought after the 30 day thing kicked in counted. So I guess any card bought before that needed to be registered before the 30 day change kicked in.

XFX has the same registration requirement as eVGA to activate the lifetime warranty, however note that according to Maximum PC, effective April 17th they now support overclocking & replacement of the factory HS/fan without voiding your warranty ... combined with it being transferrable to second buyer, we may have a new leader in the warranty department.

I really hate eVGA RMA process - I want to RMA my card (third time now cause of artifacting) and they will not send you a replacement card while your card is being RMA'd even if you give them your CC. You basically have to buy a card in the interim while you RMA your card, such a pain in the ass and I will not go with eVGA again.

You basically have to buy a card in the interim while you RMA your card, such a pain in the ass and I will not go with eVGA again.
They have an advanced RMA, they send you the card first.

The guy is giving me the invoice. But it will have his name and addy on it so that might be a problem. But hopefully I'll never have any problems out of it.

This is not accurate ... They offer advance-RMA but you have to pay a small fee for it & its called the EAR plan. *(eVGA Advance RMA)

I signed up for it when it was first made available & paid about $14 for advance-shipment of a replacement card with overnight shipping included ... of course its only worth it if my card fails on me!


Edit:

Taken directly from the eVGA RMA support page:

"Customers can choose to not participate in this program and if anything does go wrong in the future they can still apply for a standard RMA. Cross-Shipment on standard RMA?s are not available and customers will be required to pay for shipping the product(s) back to EVGA."

Sent in a 7800gt KO a few weeks back and now they rejected my RMA due to a chipped PCI express lever tab. Yes I could have dinged the tab but if they could still test and verify the fault i'd be getting a new card back. (I know my fault) but do they have to be that picky...I mean chances are they will just junk the cards anyway right....and if they can perform a test on it they would see it was defective. I was getting artifacts on screen and shutdowns like many people who RMA their cards.

Anyone know what might be causing the artifacts.....is it due to heat stress buildup? What about replacing the supporting transistors and ICs if possible to fix the problem or does the problem lie in the GPU itself?

That is kinda lame if they rejected it just for that. My next new card will likely be XFX/BFG thats just a bit much IMO. As for the artifacts are they just in games,desktops,ect? Chances are its a bad memory chip or maybe the GPU. Try downclocking the core and memory and see if it helps. Check your temps while gaming aswell.

I was getting artifacts mostly in fast moving games like Counterstrike sometimes locking up the whole system...tried on other fast moving games and OpenGL and same problem so I don't think it was game dependant.

Might try to artic silver the stock heatsink and maybe replace a few transistors if cheap and see if any change.
