EVGA vs. Chaintech 6600GT

I had been planning on buying the Chaintech 6600GT based mainly on the excellent performance shown in the TechReport mid-range card review.

But now the EVGA version seems to be very popular on this board, however it was not reviewed in that above article, so I'm wondering if anyone thinks there are any major differences?

The EVGA is now available for only $178.75 (includes shipping)

The Chaintech is slightly higher at $189.99


This is probably not a big deal, but I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

EVGA. They got a step up program SHOULD you want to upgrade later down the road. Plus, EVGA tech support is more helpful since its based here in the USA rather than CHaintech in TW. Hope that helps in your decision.

Also, the chaintech is clocked at OEM or 900mhz for ram VS the 1k all others are going for just like the PCI-E counterpart. The only thing that Chaintech is charging more for is the fact that the Package comes with PAINKILLER! awesome FPS! goes for $40 by itself.

I have the Chaintech 6600, there were no damn Painkiller CDs in the box!
I got an RMA number (not because of the missing free game) and am going to purchase a 6800.

Yes, where can I find information on their step-up program...might be a good alternative to waiting for 6800gt pci-e's do come back in stock since I have no video card atm.

Adult, maybe its cause You should've gotten the GT AGP version, go check in at newegg.com, the package clearly has painkiller on it.

The box has Painkiller inside written on several places on the box. It really wasn't a big deal to me that it was missing although it would have been nice to have.

They're both just reference boards, whichever is cheaper is the one I'd go with.

Cool guys thanks, I think I'm gonna go with the EVGA for the slightly cheaper price (plus I'm mad at ZZF for raising the price of the Asus A8N SLI by $10 right as I was about to order from them for $199.99 with free shipping -- hence I will punish them by not taking advantage of their price on the Chaintech.


I still wonder though... since the TechReport article ( http://techreport.com/reviews/...nge-pcie/index.x?pg=22 ) showed quite a performance lead from Chaintech and XFX cards versus a few others, I wonder how the EVGA stacks up next to it (EVGA was not part of thier comparison). Heck, I'd love to do the benchmarks myself, but I don't exactly have the $$ 😉

i bought the gigabyte....

i think it's priced below 190 and was in the top three in all of the benchmarks anandtech did in the roundup. as far as the temps.... the reviewer broke the HSF off and it was loose throughout testing, so i took a chance and assumed that the temp difference was because of the boneheadery by the reviewer. aside from that, i don't see any reason why it wouldn't been one of the recommendations from anandtech.
