eVga VS. BFG

I'm seeing eVGA losing a lot of money on this as well. Nevertheless, I think when I upgrade, I'll grab an eVGA 6800NU, and if I need more juice, I'll step up if the price of the higher cards manages to drop a little.

I've decided to go back to Nvidia and Evga after being jerked around with that Gateway/XT 800 XT fiasco. I switched to Nvidia after they squashed 3dfx (not much of a choice then) and have owned just about every Nvidia card from the Geforce 256 to the Ti4600. Went over to ATI with the 9700 Pro and never looked back....until now. That Step Up program looks awesome and the GT even includes Far Cry. Mess around with the GT for a couple of months and then upgrade to the Ultra. Sounds good to me

Hey sick beast... They do resell the cards but, not as new. To "step up" and receive full purchase price towards your next card you have to return the card in resellable condition (working, all documentation, far cry game, etc...) They appear to have a section on their website called marketplace. The marketplace are used cards (some 90 days old or less) that you can buy at a discount.

If you only want a GT and not an Ultra, look at marketplace in 90 days and I imagine you'll start seeing quite a few 90 day (almost like new) GT's for maybe $300???

All cards are for the most part even right now in terms of noise. The Ultra does have a 2 slot cooling solution but supposedly it is very quiet.

I don't want to risk it =(, but I guess i'll get the BFG GT and cope with the fan on it if it's loud. Or maybe I'll just ask this question later when a lot of ppl have the GT =).

No it isn't. Please provide benchmarks to prove thos because from what ivehear as a result of the two slot cooling of the Ultras they run around 30C idle and 50C load. For the GTs 40Cidle 60-70C load.

Guys, I'm sure the step up program will be based on MSRP, which never changes. You're not going to get an Ultra for the price of the GT. I don't think they would be that stupid.

Correct.... MSRP (you pay $100 to upgrade).... by the time I step up (October), they should be bundling some more cool games (EVGA usually has a good bundle). If they budle doom 3 that would more than pay for the step up in my opinion?

My zalman cpu fan is louder than the gt's at idle/load heh. Its very quiet =)

52c at idle and 61 after 6 hrs of ut2k4 with a stable oc of 400/1100

Edit - have the bfg =)

You guys have to realize...that if you want to do the step up program youwill probably not be allowed to OC it. I am willing to bet if you OC they wont let you step it up. This doesnt really matter to becuase i dont OC and i havent gotten mine yet (8/2/04 is when mine is coming).

Considering the demand, and the fact that most places are selling them (new) for rather above MSRP (because of the lack of adequate supply from NV), I don't think that they will lose money, they could sell them as "refurb" and still move them at MSRP, IMHO.

No they aren't stupid but there is no way to tell unless you really screw something up. The only way they could tell your overclocking it is to see it on your computer. Which would violate the 1st amendment therefore as long as you know what your doing and dont fry the chip they wont know.
