I bought my 7900GT CO on launch day from Newegg and it came properly clocked and haven't had any problems. YMMV.

We don't have to pay them to ship it back though do we?

of course you would. if you bought it at a B&M store, you'd have to drive it back, woudln't you? not like they are going to come to your house and pick it up.

that they waived the restocking fee to return it is actually a good compromise on their part.

why don't they just release a bios. its not terribly difficult to flash to a new bios.

edit- let me clarify that. they should at least make it an option ffor people who are comfortable doing so rather than waiting a week+ for a ship and return plus shipping.

Yeah they did that with their 7800GTs . . . I'm sure eVGA will release a BIOS on their site sooner or later . . .

If you have a card from the first batch and don't have problems described, don't freak out and try to RMA. Just wait for a bios revision. As someone said, they're easy to flash. Be happy you got one.

Two weeks ago when I registered for step-up to a 7900GT Super, I went from #293 to #6 in two days. I was pumped!

Well, that was two weeks ago. I'm still sitting at #6.

LOL bios fix. Luv that. All you need to do is use Coolbits and downclock the ram on your 7900GTX to 825. Anything higher, and it just overheats and starts artifacting games, specially BF2.

Downclock? That would suck, I wouldn't be utilizing my card fully.

Funny. I was running my 7900GTX EGS at 690core and 880 memory with zero issues. anything higher made it very unstable

I admire the patience of the many folks who are dealing with these 7900GTs. Although it doesn't help any person here to know this, I am just glad I wasn't an early adopter of this card. eVGA has a chance to do right every time one of these knowledgeable, willful holders of a bum 79 calls tech support.

Instead, they are really not doing the simplest thing they can do, which is to acknowledge the issue. It's not like any user is going to demand that a replacement be sent immediately. They've got to give their customers more credit. As long as there is still a technical issue, no one will want a replacement card. But at the least eVGA could say, "Yes, we had a problem with our first production runs of the 79s. Our engineers are working hard to sort this out, and when we know we have a solid replacement for you, we want to work with you to resolve this."

They don't realize just how much their current situation is hurting them. People like me, sitting here on a superb eVGA 6800 GS, are scratching our heads and saying, "Hmmm maybe not eVGA next time." I see posters swarming like bees to BFG and XFX 79s because of this current situation. As long as eVGA remains mum, what choice does any new customer have?

Just got my 2 7900GT's from evga. Didn't have the bios problem and were 500/750 (1500) out of the box. Hurray.

Currently OC'ed to 550/1600 for now. Especally with that wimpy stock cooler.

Try playing on a 64player BF2 server Fushe map. Then tell me you have zero issues. :)
