Will I be able to fix the Bios, or will I need to RMA the card?

Did you order it this monday?

I ordered mine from Newegg last Tuesday (1 week + 1 day ago).

So do we need to return our crappy cards? How else can we update the BIOS? Do I need an extra card to boot into windows and then download the update? Bloody hell !

If you have a 7900 GT currently up and working fine in your system now, it would be my assumption that you were not affected by the bad batches.

If your 7900 is problematic then almost certainly you would be in the group of people who need to return cards. NewEgg is waiving the restocking fee.

LOL, restocking fee, the thing is busted!! So we would still have to pay shipping to get it to Newegg?

We don't have to pay them to ship it back though do we?

Do we have any idea of what part numbers the 7900 GT's have are causing the problem?

I"m asking because mine is still in box, and will not be used until the rest of my rig arrives in a couple days (my current PC does not have a PCIe slot for me to test it).

Regarding cost to ship it back to NewEgg, I don't know the answer. I am glad to say I was not an early adopter on this particular video card.

Regarding part numbers, I don't know that either.

I do know that as of today, Wed 29 Mar 2006, eVGA is currently (meaning 'still') working on the problem. So if your soon-to-arrive eVGA was ordered from NewEgg before today's date, I would say there's a good chance it came from the bad batches.

vois-

thank you for the info. makes me very sad, but at least I'm informed now. so if by some chance my card seems to work fine, then I'll probably be ok for the life of the card?

the bad batch issue makes me nervous even if the thing gets up and running.

I can't answer your questions because the entire premise is based on unknowns. Next step: Try the card and see how it goes.

id be sure to register it properly to avoid any problems with a warranty should something go wrong in the future. something i rarely do, but with evga already admitting a problem with this card, dont forget to do it.

Wow, you might get to be a lucky one. I would definitely wait to send that card in to eVGA. At least until 7900 GPUs appear again on NewEgg. (They've been withdrawn, for now.)

Read the e-mail again, you have 14 days. I waited to send mine like 7 days into that period. They got it in 2 days (today). They would be idiots to send me a bad card now that the information is public.

LOL bios fix. Luv that. All you need to do is use Coolbits and downclock the ram on your 7900GTX to 825. Anything higher, and it just overheats and starts artifacting games, specially BF2.

Downclock? That would suck, I wouldn't be utilizing my card fully.

Why would it suck? Tell me any other 7800GTXs can do 1650 memory on stock air cooling.

hummm, maybe I don't understand what you are saying. I don't have a 7900GTX, I just have a 7900 GT. So if I downclock it wouldn't that make it run slower?

I guess I just want to get what I paid them for.

I just called their tech support and they said that it has only been an issue with the overclocked 7900's that they were running at the standard 7900 speed. Don't know if they are lying, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.
