How does it work. Do you only have 90 to step up to a higher card?

yep, three months to take advantage of it, plus they have to have the new card in stock. Earlier this year, they rarely had the 6800GTs in stock so it was rare that any EVGA buyers had a chance to take advantage of this program. Its only a good idea if their inventory is replenished.

I have about 3 weeks left to stepup (if I want) from my current 6800GT.
I'm thinking 7800GT

So I wouldnt mind a little more info on this program as well.

Are you sure about that? Their FAQ states that only the request must be filed within 90 days.

Q: What if the product I want to Step-Up to is BACKORDERED?
A: You may select the backordered part as your Step-Up card, and you will be placed on a queue. As long as your request was submitted within the first 90 days of your purchase, it does not matter when the product becomes available for Step-Up, even if that period of time exceeds the alotted 90 days.

Yep, the GTX KO's went on backorder as soon as my original GTX arrived for step-up. Still no problem though

you can get in line for one anyway even if it is in backorder. as long as you submitted the request for the step up, it doesn't matter when the card comes back in stock (even if it's over the 90 days). It's stated in their FAQ for the step up program.

I'm thinking of doing it too (going from a 6800GT to 7800 GTX). I'm just trying to hold out till September in hopes that the price drops another $50.

Thanks for the correction on this .... I couldn't take advantage of it when I bought my EVGA and assumed (wrongly) on that point. It looked like a nice upgrade option, but 90 days is a pretty fast turnaround for a vid card that took me a while to save up for in the first place.
