eVGA Step-Up Program

Is anyone familiar with the details of eVGA's step up program? If I buy an AGP 6800 now, will their program allow me to get a PCI-e version of the same card when it's released, or does the step up program only apply to the "latest and greatest" cards they have available (ie the ultra). I'm thinking of getting one now, then upgrading when nForce4 boards come out, possibly allowing for a future SLI setup.

Of course, given the state of things, we're probably not likley to see NF4 within the 90 days of the step up program.

hell i'm not even confident enough that the AGP ultras will be out in 90 days so that we can trade them up, much less anything PCI-E...

Not to mention the chances there is a real performance difference is real small.

eVGA will let you step up to an Ultra even if they don't have them in stock in 90 days as long as you get your step up request in before 90 days after your invoice. Not sure about anything PCI-e.

but do you need to send in your card and just wait for them or do they notify you when to send it if it's going to be longer than 90 days?

Not sure. I got my 6800GT on July 13, so I still have time to consider if I am going to do the step it up thing or not. By that time the cards should be in stock on a regular basis (hopefully). It is an interesting proposition, but I've been quite pleased with my GT. I'm not sure if the Ultra will really be that big of a difference to make it worth having to send it back to them and wait for a new card. It really depends on if I'll be doing any gaming or not during that time, since the temporary card would be a Radeon 7200.

Back to the OP... I don't think that step up is limited to any particular card, so it makes sense that you could get a PCI-e upgrade if they have that card by time your 90 days runs out.
